The resident Lilywhites were celebrating in the Transfer Tavern last night after opening the calendar year with a scrappy victory away at Swansea City.
Tottenham Hotspur were rather fortunate to walk away from the Liberty Stadium with all three points last night after they struggled to strut their stuff on a treacherous surface. The former Swansea employee Fernando Llorente got Spurs off to a flying start when he nodded home his first Premier League goal for the club after just 12 minutes, although the Spaniard did appear to be offside when Christian Eriksen delivered the ball into the danger zone.
Swansea pushed for an equaliser for the remainder of the match, but despite creating a handful of huge chances and hitting the woodwork, they failed to get on the scoresheet.
And the tootheless Swans were made to pay for their missed opportunities in the 89th minute, as Dele Alli was first to the rebound of his own shot to fire home a crucial second into the roof of the net.
Tottenham’s trip to Wales was a big night for Erik Lamela in his recovery from injury, as he made only his second league start for the club since returning to first-team action at the end of November.
But despite enduring such a lengthy spell on the sideline, the Tottenham fans are showing a lack of patience with the Argentine.
Following their side’s victory last night, plenty of Lilywhites took to Twitter to slam Lamela for his ineffectual performance against Swansea.
Here’s what the Spurs fans had to say about Lamela’s performance on Twitter…
Been a Lamela apologist for a while but tonight it seems like he has lost his confidence completely. Also didn't feel he helped us enough tonight #SWATOT

He is not good enough for me would replace him any day of the week with Malcom from Bordeaux

Lol, did nothing all game. Just kept it simple with sideways and backward passing. Looked better attacking wise once he left and Eriksen played ahead!
