Did You Know That Mohamed Salah Is Not in Europe’s Top Ten?

If you were to ask football fans around the globe to name the top player from the Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga, you would be hit with some mixed responses.

However, names you can guarantee would be up there include Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.

At the beginning of the European football season, you never have believed what Salah has achieved but his goal scoring exploits have pushed him to the top of European footballs greatest players this season.

Salah with Work to Do

In fact, Salah’s last six months have been incredible yet if the statistics from CIES Football Observatory are anything to go by, Salah is not inside the top ten players in Europe over the past six months.

On the face of it, Salah’s stats speak for themselves and one search for the term ‘Mohamed Salah transfer’ online shows the player being linked with a big money move to Real Madrid in the summer. However, according to the rankings at CIES Football Observatory, Salah still has some work to do if he wants to be regarded in the top ten of European football.

Manchester City Dominate

According to the website, Vincent Kompany has been the best player in Europe over the past six months, followed by Lionel Messi and Kompany’s central defensive partner, Nicolas Otamendi. There are a total of 8 Manchester City players in the list until you find Salah down in 17th place, with a score of 87.2 in the player performance rankings.

Niklas Sule, Marco Verratti, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and Fabian Delph are some of the players ranked higher than Salah.

Ranking Criteria

The rankings have been formulated by watching every game in the top five European leagues and players are given a total average score out of 100. Players are marked using six criteria and these are Rigour, Recovery, Distribution, Take On, Chance Creation and Shooting.

Rigour and Recovery and linked to defensive work and so it is little surprise to see Salah falling short in these categories. However, the Egyptian has also been struggling in other departments in his most recent Liverpool games and scored just over 50 points in total for the match against Chelsea in the Premier League.

If Real Madrid were to use this index as way of scouting players, a potential Salah transfer would be out of the window. However, every player suffers a dip in form and Salah has not been at his best in recent weeks.

Liverpool will be hoping Salah is back to his best in the final two matches of the season and he can carry Liverpool to glory.
