Dilemma for Conte: Should this 30-year-old replace Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante against Crystal Palace?

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the absence of N’Golo Kante this weekend…

The Frenchman is set to miss Chelsea’s clash with Crystal Palace through injury, leaving Antonio Conte with a real dilemma ahead of the game. Kante has been a constant in the Premier League so far this season, and so to replace him will be no easy task. It’s safe to assume that Cesc Fabregas will play, but who could partner him?

The obvious option for the manager would be to bring in Tiemoue Bakayoko. He has played with Fabregas already this season, albeit with N’Golo Kante in the side too, and whilst neither is as defensive as the Frenchman, they could likely do a job against Crystal Palace.

New signing Danny Drinkwater could also be available, though it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to feature. He hasn’t played for Chelsea yet, but he’s already proven in the Premier League.

Our landlord’s favoured option, though, comes in the form of David Luiz. Luiz, who has missed Chelsea’s last few games in the Premier League, is a natural defender, but Andreas Christensen has done so well in his absence that the Danish defender doesn’t deserve to be dropped. Luiz is defensive in a similar manner to Kante, and so would be a decent like-for-like replacement. That would allow Conte to keep his shape whilst also continuing to pick his side based on merit.

It’s certainly a tough call for the manager, but which option should he go for?
