Director of Sport provides another update on status of Chelsea defender, fans will be concerned

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see Andreas Christensen return to the club this summer…

The Danish defender has impressed whilst on loan in Germany, having spent two seasons playing for Borussia Monchengladbach. Having been unlikely to regularly start for the Blues during this timeframe, the loan made it possible for the defender to become a regular and really find his feet in European football.

The end of his loan has come at a good time for Chelsea, with John Terry’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, with Christensen arguably a perfect replacement.

However, it seems as though his current club are at least trying to make the move permanent, with Borussia Monchengladbach Director of Sport Max Eberl recently confirming as much. Speaking to Kicker, he said: “We are still fighting for Andreas Christensen, but I have not given up hope”.

It seems as though Monchengladbach are keen to see Christensen stay this summer, and it is easy to see why. He has been on fire in Germany, quickly establishing himself as a regular in both domestic and continental competition.

Our landlord thinks that the club may struggle to keep him in Germany, though. Chelsea are desperate for a bit of defensive depth,  and Conte may well see Christensen as the perfect fit.
