It has been a difficult season for Everton, and it’s fair to say that the Toffees’ fanbase is quite divided at the moment. After a horror start to the season, Sam Allardyce came in to steady the ship, but since his arrival, Everton’s playstyle has not been the prettiest of things.
Clearly, some fans value exciting football above all else, and unfortunately for them, Allardyce isn’t going to bring that.
It remains to be seen whether Big Sam, as he is known, will remain at the club beyond the summer, but the Englishman is not the only person facing an uncertain future.
The Everton squad clearly needs a bit of clearout, and one player that the Toffees need to start with is Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen.
Brought in with hype and excitement, he just hasn’t made the grade at Everton.
In truth, it doesn’t even look like there is much chance of him turning it around, either. He moves the ball too slowly, and he’s struggled to keep up with the pace of the Premier League. Furthermore, whilst he’s clearly got technical ability, his lack of physicality means that he has rarely been able to make the most of it.
He’s spent most of the season on the sidelines, and Allardyce clearly doesn’t rate him. He’s done nothing to prove that he is even close to good enough to turn out regularly at Goodison Park, and so, likely much to the disappointment of fans who had high hopes for him, the Dutchman should be off this summer.
His place in the squad would be far better utilised by someone that can do a job for the Toffees, and any money made from sale should be reinvested as the club look to rebuild this summer.
