The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed with the fine form of Roberto Firmino this season, and so recent reports from the Times have gone down well.
According to the Times, Firmino is in line for a new contract at Anfield, with discussions reportedly held between members of the Liverpool brass behind the scenes in recent weeks on the matter. Whilst confirmation of a deal remains some way off, Liverpool clearly intend to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
That’s no real surprise, of course, given Firmino’s fine form this term. Though not typically as lethal as Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero or Alvaro Morata, the Brazilian’s technique and effort make him invaluable to the Liverpool first team. Offering pace, technique, flair, creativity and energy, he’s practically undroppable for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
This season he has also added goals to his game, with 9 coming so far in the Premier League. As noted, that’s not a blinding record, but when added to his incredible work and build-up play, that quickly becomes far more impressive than it looks on paper.
Liverpool, then, would be wise to tie him down – with Jurgen Klopp clearly a big fan of his star forward.
A new deal for Roberto Firmino could well go down as one of the deals of the year. He’s so important under Klopp, and securing his long-term future would be as important as securing a new signing.
In light of Philippe Coutinho’s departure, Klopp will want to make sure that he doesn’t lose any more important players, and Firmino definitely falls under that banner.
At 26-years-old, he’s coming into the prime of his career, and Liverpool are clearly desperate to ensure he spends his best years and beyond at Anfield.
