Divock Origi named in Liverpool’s Champions League squad

Liverpool have included a surprise name in their 25-man Champions League squad for the upcoming tournament.

According to a report by The Daily Mirror, Divock Origi has been included in Jurgen Klopp’s team as they look to go one better than last year’s final appearance.

The Belgium international had been expected to be moved on from the Anfield outfit in the summer, however, a deal never managed to take place and it appeared as though he would find himself on the fringes of the team once again.

Origi had spent the whole of last season out on loan with Wolfsburg in Germany and it is thought that he had attracted interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Valencia in Spain.

However, his inclusion in the Champions League team could give him an opportunity to have a chance to impress Klopp, although it will be extremely difficult with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane already playing at the best of their abilities.

The Verdict:

Origi’s involvement with the Champions League squad is a surprise, especially considering it does not appear that he has a future with the Anfield outfit.

Should the £9million-rated attacker, as per Transfermarkt, get a chance to play against either Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli or Red Star Belgrade, it would be felt that he would need to grab the opportunity with both hands.

It remains to be seen if Klopp decides to use the 23-year-old, or if he has just been included to make the numbers up.
