Does Guardiola actually need to launch a move for this defender?

Man City’s fans in the Tavern tonight have a mixture of happiness and confusion over their potential signing of Danilo.

Antonio Conte will be wondering what more he can do to start bringing in some of his top transfer targets to the club after reports suggest Manchester City will beat them to Danilo.

This one confused our landlord.

Pep Guardiola has just spent £53 million on Kyle Walker and is now willing to spend another £26.5 million on someone in the same position?

Baffling. Putting aside the money spent, let’s look at why City might want Danilo to join their ranks.

Danilo has been very under-utilised at Real Madrid since his arrival from Porto in 2015 which makes it a shame he will likely sit on Man City’s bench too.

The Brazilian is a very strong player and can use his frame well to hold onto the ball.

Further up the pitch he could prove to be a quality signing for City.

His passing is great for a left back and he can use that passing ability to quickly manoeuvre the ball from defence to attack.

He will certainly have a point to prove and will be hoping to be able to break into the City first team and that is only going to come with the quality performances he is capable of.

Danilo’s main weakness now is the fact that he has only featured 56 times in two years for Madrid which is not as much as it sounds.

Regular first team football has eluded him due to the inclusion of Dani Carvajal in the Madrid starting line-up and that could prove to give him a tough start at City.
