Despite being linked to about 25 different strikers since AVB joined the club in July … Athletico Madrid’s star European striker, Adrian, has been linked to the North London club providing they meet his affordable €16 million release clause in his contract, according to the Mirror.
With Defoe being the only striker at Spurs currently with a reputation to his name, Tottenham are in a desperate situation to bring in a couple of new forwards who they hope will see them meet their ambition of Champions League football, and Adrian has proven himself on a big stage in Europe.
His track record in the Europa League is very appealing to AVB, who won the trophy with Porto the season before last. Scoring 6 goals in 9 appearances in the competition, it is easy to see why AVB is attracted to his style of play. With incredible footwork skills which sees him constantly scores from one-on-one opportunites combined with immaculate play and awareness by keeping to to the centimetre for staying onside, his goalscoring record is not justifiable for the ability he possesses.
In La Liga, Adrian has started 27 times for Athletico Madrid and has scored 9 times, providing a further 2 assists too but with a team which they hope will consist of Sigurdsson, Lennon, Bale, Sandro and Moutinho/Modric, the number of goals which Adrian scored for Athletico Madrid will just be a small number of what he can reach at Spurs. With evidence of his attacking abilities, he will be a very effective option to bring in.
However, for a main striker I am not convinced. With Adebayor alleged to be finalising his move to Spurs in the next few days and a “world-class” striker being linked to the club, I can’t see Tottenham buying 3 strikers this window unless Defoe is to depart too.
