Liverpool's Dominic Solanke has been heavily linked with a move away from the club in recent months with various clubs supposedly expressing an interest, including Rangers.

According to a recent report from The Daily Record, Rangers are hoping to sign Solanke on loan before the transfer window shuts at the end of August. With only Umar Sadiq and Alfredo Morelos to chose from at centre-forward, Steven Gerrard is certainly wise to target the acquisition of a new striker before the window slams shut as one major injury could leave his side in a precarious situation.

Targeting Solanke (valued at £9 million by Transfermarkt) is certainly smart from Rangers' perspective, but the player himself would be wise to push for an alternative transfer in order to really challenge himself.

Although Solanke struggled to impress on a consistent basis during his first season with the club due to a lack of regular opportunities, he showed enough quality in sporadic bursts to suggest he could eventually blossom into a fine Premier League centre-forward.

With that being said, embarking on a move to Rangers seems a rather backwards step in his career as he would not be testing himself at a level which represents anything close to the standard of the Premier League.

However, a loan move to a promotion chasing Championship club would give Solanke a much better platform from which to kickstart his career.

Naturally, at this moment in time, the most important thing is that Solanke is playing regular first-team football one way or another, so he shouldn't snub a move to Ibrox if there is nothing else on the cards at the end of the month.

But in the best interests of his development, he should test himself in a tremendously competitive division which continues to show signs of improvement if he is faced with a choice between the SPFL and the Championship.
