Done deal: Arsenal secure international defender on long-term deal

MonrealArsenal fans enjoying a quick lunch in the Transfer Tavern this afternoon were greeted by positive news from their club, who have secured a crucial signing.

Following the arrival of Mohamed Elneny last week, Arsenal have confirmed that left-back Nacho Monreal has penned a new long-term deal with the Premier League leaders.

Monreal arrived at Arsenal in January 2013 and initially struggling to adapt to English football, before making a meteoric rise last season. He was arguably Arsenal’s best performer throughout 2015 and is now a crucial part of their defence.

With over 80 Premier League appearances to date, the Spaniard is a crucial part of Arsenal’s defence that also includes Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny and Monreal’s compatriot Hector Bellerin.

The deal was welcomed with cheers at the bar, with our punters being a big fan of Monreal and believing he is criminally underrated by some of their fellow supporters and rival fans across the division.

Basque-born Monreal had previously been linked with a return to Spain to play with Athletic Bilbao but any chances of that happening have been swiftly ended.

Our landlord believes this is an important deal for Arsenal and hopes they will continue to tie-down their key players.
