The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are watching on and hoping that a young player will get a chance at Stamford Bridge…
Chelsea’s utilisation, or lack thereof, of young players is a topic of real conversation in the Transfer Tavern, with supporters often split on the matter. On one hand, supporters can’t understand why Antonio Conte isn’t affording young players an opportunity at Stamford Bridge, whilst others recognise that Chelsea need to win titles – and that can’t be done by using young, inexperienced players, and so in that sense, the loan system is a perfect way around that.
Depending on which way you look at it, you will likely be feeling differently regarding Chelsea’s latest announcement, with the Blues confirming that young midfielder Charlie Colkett has moved on a season-long loan to Vitesse Arnhem.
Colkett is arguably one of the Blues’ more impressive young players, having served as a mainstay in the increasingly successful Chelsea academy over the last few years. He has had a couple of loans away before this one, to both Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town respectively, with the midfielder enjoying success at both clubs.
Now, though, a move to Vitesse Arnhem is on the cards – and it is most definitely a step up for the Englishman. Our landlord is a big fan, and he is hoping that the midfielder will have a big impact in the Netherlands.
