Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a busy afternoon in the bar today, as their lunches were disrupted by a few big news stories.
Sky Sports confirm Chelsea’s signing of Brazil international Alexandre Pato on a loan deal, with the former AC Milan forward moving to the Blues from South American side Corinthians until the end of the season.
Chelsea have been chasing the 26-year-old striker throughout the January window as they look to reform their attacking line, which is expected to lose Loic Remy before Monday’s transfer deadline and is already depleted by the injury absence of Radamel Falcao.
It represents a risk for Chelsea, as Pato has struggled with injuries in recent years and is a shadow of the player he used to be, but he’s hopeful of success at Stamford Bridge.
“I am so happy to sign for Chelsea. It is a dream for me. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new team-mates and cannot wait to play. I thank Chelsea for their support and hope I can repay this faith to the club and its fans.”
Our landlord isn’t convinced this is a good deal for Chelsea but has accepted he may have to eat humble pie, should the player prove himself in the coming months.
