Done deal: Chelsea confirm appointment of international manager

ConteWith the season edging closer to it’s conclusion in May, Chelsea are setting themselves up for a managerial shake-up once again and for those in the Transfer Tavern, the news they’ve been awaiting is finally official.

The BBC confirm Italy boss Antonio Conte has finalised a deal with Chelsea to take charge of the Blues after Euro 2016.

Conte has long been considered the favourite to be taking over at Chelsea over the summer but the manager has remained coy on his future, although the Italian Football Federation confirmed a new manager will be appointed after Euro 2016- which intensified links to Chelsea.

With Conte keen to return to club management, Chelsea seems to be the perfect fit for him and he becomes the fifth Italian manager in the club’s history, following Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo.

Conte’s success with Italy will be judged on his side’s performance at this summer’s European Championships, where the 2006 World Cup winners will be expected to improve on their failures at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
