Done Deal: Chelsea confirm defender deal

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern knew that it was coming…

January was a quiet window for Chelsea, with the Blues largely limiting the focus of their transfers to the sale of players.

The likes of John Obi Mikel, Oscar and Patrick Bamford all left the club in the opening few weeks of the window, and whilst the Premier League window has now closed – one last deal has finally been confirmed.

Chelsea have today confirmed on their official website that Branislav Ivanovic has left the club, with the Serbian defender moving to Russian side Zenit – departing London after 9 years in the English capital.

The Russian window is still open, which has allowed Ivanovic to complete his move away from England – despite the fact that Deadline Day in England has now passed.

Ivanovic’s Chelsea career will have, undoubtedly, not ended in the way that he had hoped – with the Serbian dropped from the Chelsea first team in favour of Victor Moses on the right-hand side. In truth, it would appear as though age is slowly catching up to the defender – and the time for him to leave had certainly arrived.

After a glittering career, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern will never forget him. See some of his best bits below…
