The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t know what to make of this…
Everton have had a relatively busy few weeks, with a tough run of games aligning alongside the January transfer window – with Morgan Schneiderlin the most high-profile signing that has come through the doors at Goodison Park thus far.
After a tough first half of the season, it seemed as though Ronald Koeman was looking to bring in a bit of established depth as he looks to push for a top 6 finish – but that trend has now ended with the signing of a player that has not been on the radar of anyone in the Transfer Tavern.
As confirmed on Everton’s official website, the Toffees have signed 19-year-old attacker Anton Donkor from Wolfsburg on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Interestingly, Everton note that he will play with the under-23’s at Goodison Park – which has left a few of the Toffees in the Tavern wondering why the deal was done.
After all, he’s only going to be on Everton’s books until the end of the season – so the prospect of moving into the first team as times goes on is seemingly off the cards.
A left-footed attacking midfielder, Donkor is able to play across the front line – meaning that he could prove useful for the developmental side at Everton as the season progresses.
He has only featured at youth level for his club, which would suggest that a first team role at Everton is unlikely – even if he performs well.
