Leicester City fans will be relishing their team’s impressive season even more after the club announced the signing of Demarai Gray from Birmingham City on a four-and-a-half year contract.
The 19-year old has been linked to several other teams, including other Premier League outfits in the form of Everton and Southampton. However, it is believed that Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri has been keeping tabs on the highly-rated winger since the summer.
The England Under-20 international will head to the King Power Stadium after surprise title contenders Leicester triggered a £3.75 million release clause in the contract that he signed back in July, with the transfer just awaiting approval from the Premier League. Speaking to Leicester’s official website after securing his move, Gray said
“It’s been my dream to play in the Premier League since I started playing football so I’m very happy to join the club.
The Birmingham City academy graduate was named the club’s best young player last season, and he is keen to build upon that achievement and develop as a player under Ranieri at Leicester.
“It’s a great club. The facilities are great and for a player like me it’s an ideal place for me to improve. Meeting all the staff here, it seems like a nice family place, so I think that’s perfect for me,”
Gray was quick to point out the good vein of form that Leicester find themselves in, something which the club will want to maintain in the second half of the season, with the 19-year old expected to become a part of Leicester’s first-team squad in order to provide competition for the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Marc Albrighton and Nathan Dyer.
“You can see how well the team has been doing this year and I watch a lot of football so I can see that the way Leicester City play suits my style. I only hear good things about Leicester and I’m looking forward to starting.”
Our landlord believes Leicester have completed an excellent piece of business and that Gray will be a huge benefit to Claudio Ranieri’s side.
