It’s fair to say that the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life under Jurgen Klopp at the moment…
The German boss has led his side fantastically, and whilst he has often done his talking on the pitch – his movements off the pitch have been equally impressive.
Players like Sadio Mane and Joel Matip have been signed by Klopp to huge success, and the Liverpool fans in the Tavern have quickly begun to trust their manager when it comes to transfer business.
They can’t help but hide their disappointment at his latest transfer decision, though, with Liverpool confirming on their official website that young defender Tiago Illori has left the club permanently, with Championship side Reading his destination.
Despite proving an exciting signing in the Tavern when he joined the Reds in 2013, Illori has not had the desired impact at Liverpool. He has rarely featured, his last appearance coming in early 2016, with the defender largely limited to performances for the under 23 side over the last few months.
A strong tackler, Illori is a pretty old fashioned defender – and though it would have been difficult to break into the Liverpool back line, the Reds in the Tavern can’t help but feel that his departure is slightly premature.
Our landlord thinks that a deal was always coming, though, as the defender will shortly turn 24 – and he needs game time in order to reach his potential.
Liverpool fans – thoughts?
