Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are anxiously circling around the TV screens in the bar after news broke that the Reds have landed their first piece of January business.
The Reds confirmed on Twitter the signing of Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade, with the 19-year-old arriving for a fee of £5.1m and immediately returning to his former side on-loan until the end of the campaign.
Signing on a four-year contract, the U20 World Cup winner becomes the first signing of Jurgen Klopp’s regime at Anfield- with many in the bar hoping that this deal will be the first of many exciting transfers completed by the German boss.
Liverpool beat off vast interest in Grujic’s signature, beating Anderlecht, Stuttgart, CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg to the young Serbian.
Grujic has scored five goals in 22 games for Red Star in the Serbian league this season, where the title-favourites are currently enjoying a run that has seen them yet to lose domestically in their current campaign.
Our landlord believes time will tell whether this is a good deal but trusts Klopp’s judgement, suggesting Liverpool may have landed themselves a bargain.
