Done deal: Sunderland striker joins French giants on loan

Steven FletcherSunderland boss Sam Allardyce has been working frantically during this transfer window to try and bolster his squad whilst offloading some of the dead wood at the same time.

The Black Cats supporting punters who are in the Transfer Tavern this evening are gobsmacked at news that has filtered through courtesy of Sky Sports, that has confirmed striker Steven Fletcher has joined French club Marseille on loan until the end of the season.

The Scotland international has scored 23 goals in 86 appearance for Sunderland but has found himself down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season, which has seen boss Sam Allardyce allow him to leave.

One Sunderland fan is getting the shots in at the bar for himself and his pals and cannot quite believe that a team of Marseille’s magnitude has taken on such a below-par player.

The deal will run until the end of the season with the Ligue 1 club holding an option to sign the Shrewsbury-born striker at the end of the initial spell.
