It’s been a hectic season for Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger but if you talk to any of the Gunners fans here in the Tavern it’s clear things haven’t been good enough this campaign.
The Arsenal fans that have lined the bar here all season have cut an extremely frustrated figure all-season long and their inability to secure Champions League football has only made things worse for select areas of their supporters.
But one man that seems to cut more flak than most week-in, week-out is Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. He’s seen his worse goalscoring figures this season and he’s still hit a pretty decent sixteen for the campaign.
But this is a man that is criticised by pundits, supporters and other professionals alike and for some- it’s simply not warranted.
Granted, he’s not everyone’s cup of team and of course, he’s not going to possess the same amount of skill or pace as the likes of Alexis Sanchez.
But he’s a proven goalscorer that most teams would love to have in their ranks, especially at this level in England.
Last season he hit 24 goals, the season before that he dispatched 19. The season before that he hit 22. These are impressive figures that have contributed to a lot of the success we’ve seen from the Gunners in recent years.
That may not have been converted into silverware but the criticism Giroud seems to get every week just isn’t necessary. There are far more players at this club that aren’t doing enough right now and the French international certainly isn’t one of them.
Gunners fans- what have you made of Giroud and his performances this season? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
