The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing Carpi’s Jerry Mbakogu as the club are reportedly hotting up their interest in the Italian front-man. The 25-year-old striker has scored six goals and assisted a further three in his 22 appearances in Italy’s Serie B this season. Leeds have been interested in the striker since January and, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, could sign their man for £4 million in summer.

Leeds have struggled for goals since they sold Chris Wood to Burnley last summer. The club has currently got Caleb Ekuban, Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Jay-Roy Grot and Kemar Roofe as their main goal-getters, although between them they’ve failed to match the target set by Wood on his own last season, prompting the fans to call for their club to recruit a striker in the summer.
The fans are sceptical over the signing of Mbakogu though as the striker, who was granted an Italian citizenship last week, looks to be the same mould of striker that Caleb Ekuban is and the Yorkshire club don’t want to go down that path again. Whilst it remains to be seen whether the Whites get their man, Elland Road will be a Championship ground next season and unless they can find a striker who can consistently find the net, it’s hard to see them regaining their Premier League status anytime soon.

Big potential i think he'll do well in the championship . Big powerful and super fast, just needs a consistent goal touch. Had big moves to Napoli and Lazio fall through also

LUFC buying a striker that doesn’t score goals….we’re not that gullible! You’ll be telling us lufc visiting war torn Myanmar next

Why? Have we not learnt any lessons?
— Adam Barlow (@AdamPaulBarlow) May 2, 2018
Why do they not learn anything after the shambles that is ekuban. This is the reason im not renewing my season ticket just like thousands of others. Going nowhere fast if we sign players of this ilk!!
