Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were left celebrating after a Sky Sports correspondent reported to the masses crowded around the bar that Borussia Dormund are ready to sell striking target Robert Lewandowski.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term fan of the Polish international who has netted nine times for the Bundesliga outfit this season.
It is reported that Lewandowski is ready to leave the German club and Sky Sports suggest that this is demonstrated by his failure to sign an extension to his existing deal.
This could force the German champions to sell their star striker sooner than expected and club executive Hans-Joachim Watze confirmed that a big decision would need to made over his future in the next few weeks.
He told Bild: “As often as I am talking to Robert, I do not have the impression he wants to leave us.
“We will have to make decisions in this case at the end of the season. We may decide on economical factors.
“Would it be best to cash in a big fee? Or would it be even better to keep Lewandowski to ensure we are more likely to qualify for the Champions League with him in our side, as this would guarantee us big income? It’s a decision we will have to take. It’s our decision. It’s not something to be decided by others.”
Lewandowski certainly represents a different type of striker to what Ferguson currently has at Old Trafford and could be a welcome addition before the season reaches the business end.
