Nicklas Bendtner is on the cusp of leaving Arsenal after seven years in the capital. The 23 year-old has been omitted from the gunners tour of Asia, which departed for Malaysia on Sunday.
According to the Telegraph.co.uk, Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund and Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon are in ‘advanced talks’ with the towering striker over a possible £9m move.
The Denmark forward has failed to hold down a regular place in Wenger’s side, often being used in a right-sided attacking role with the French tactician preferring Robin Van Persie as the central striker in his three pronged attack.
The wasteful striker found the back of the net on just 9 occasions in 33 games in the league. Whereas, Van Persie rattled in an impressive 22 goals in 33 games making the last campaign his most successful under Wenger’s tenure.
Wenger faces a summer of speculation surrounding the likes of Nasri and Fabregas, the Arsenal coach is willing to offload Bendtner, the rumoured fee of £9m would be a decent return on a player who has failed to impress during his time at Ashburton grove.
With the gunners rumoured to be keen on luring the exciting Valencia playmaker Juan Mata and Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing to the Emirates, it seems as though Bendtner’s days in north-London are numbered.
As we all know, Arsenal are a club that operates on a very strict and calculated business model, the sale of their much chastised front-man would allow Arsene greater leverage in securing the type of players to bring the club forward and end their 6 year wait for silverware.
