‘Double Announcement’, ‘Get it over the line’ – Man City fans react to journalist’s transfer update on Twitter

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the imminent signing of Aymeric Laporte, but they are hoping that Pep Guardiola has one more trick up his sleeve this month.

City’s hopes of clinching a monumental quadruple this season look set to be boosted by the arrival of Athletic Bilbao centre-back Laporte in the next 36 hours. Guardiola’s options in central defence have been limited by injuries and incompetency this season, as Stones and Kompany have struggled to remain fit whilst Eliaquim Mangala has continued to look unconvincing when called upon.

The arrival of Laporte could be one of the most crucial turning points in the season so far if the Frenchman is able to replicate the fine form he has demonstrated in La Liga in the Premier League.

However, The Citizens faithful are concerned that an injury to Fernandinho could leave City short of options in central midfield, and they are calling for their club to make one final acquisition before the window slams shut.

The player in question is Shakthar Donestsk’s Brazilian midfield general Fred. According to Jack Gaughan (via City Watch), the northern football reporter for the Daily Mail, City are in advanced talks to sign Fred from the Ukrainian giants this month.

The news has sparked plenty of interest from the City supporters on Twitter who have begun calling for their club’s hierarchy to wrap up the deal this month rather than waiting until the summer.

Here’s what the City fans had to say in response to the latest report on Twitter…
