For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, it doesn’t get much bigger than a clash against Tottenham. Over the last few years, it has gone from being a rivalry to being an all-out war – with the Blues and the Lilywhites vying for supremacy in London.
They’re set to face off again this weekend, and it’s looking likely to be one of the most important games in recent memory. Chelsea realistically need a win to have any chance of finishing in the top four this season, and so for Antonio Conte, the game could not be any bigger.
As a result, a lot of attention will no doubt be paid to his team selection. The Italian has some big decisions to make, and one area that will no doubt command a lot of focus is the right-wing back spot.
Victor Moses has typically held the role this term, but he hasn’t looked great over the last few weeks. As such, it will come as no surprise to hear that Chelsea fans appear to be behind the prospect of a change.
Our landlord recently polled fans on the topic of who should start at right-back, with Moses and Davide Zappacosta the contenders.
Despite not being overly impressive this season, it appears as though the latter has earned the praise of the Blues faithful, with Zappacosta coming out as the runaway winner. Indeed, of those Chelsea fans polled, a whopping 74% of fans have called for Moses to be dropped in favour of Zappacosta.
Zappacosta is, of course, more of a natural in the role – yet the overwhelming support for the Italian is certainly a surprise. He hasn’t often been picked for Chelsea’s biggest games, and that’s with good reason. He often struggles defensively, and as of late he hasn’t offered much going forward either.
Nonetheless, the Chelsea faithful appear to be behind him – and so Antonio Conte clearly has a big decision to make.
