The news has broken today, via Lee Ryder of The Chronicle on Twitter, that Newcastle have not agreed a deal with Valenciennes for the transfer of defender, Sikou Niakate. Rafa Benitez is apparently mulling over his options as he looks for a new left-back and a new centre-back.
#nufc sources suggesting that there is NO deal agreed for Valenciennes defender Sikou Niakaté . United are working on deals for a left-back and centre-back with Rafa Benitez mulling through some options.

A lot of Newcastle fans aren’t best pleased with this news and with just over 24 hours left of the transfer window, they’re all convinced that this marks the end of their summer dealings this season. The club has moved to sign six players this season, with Salomon Rondon’s announcement on Monday being the latest of those six new signings to join. However, the fans would be keen to see six become seven or eight in the next 24 hours.
It’s been widely reported that the club still needs another left-back and a central defender, to add depth to the club’s backline. At the moment the only left-back at the club is Paul Dummett, whilst at centre-back, Benitez has only Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Ciaran Clark to choose from considering the long-term injury to Florian Lejeune. If the club can bring in a couple more signings, it will be viewed as a very good window, but for now, it looks very unlikely.
You can read the Magpies’ verdict on the summer so far here:
In all honesty, I can’t see Rafas mulling being the reason why we won’t/don’t sign anymore players.
It should read: Lee Charnley is incompetent and shouldn’t have such an important role at NUFC.

Business done couldn’t get them over the line

It's too quiet, won't be surprised if there is no further players through the door.

All the while the clock is ticking for Rafa and NUFC are not reowned for moving fast on anything if it involves tatmans money.
Seems like another missed opportunity transfer window down the drain

Like going to the supermarket and looking through the markdowns…

As you can see, the fans are all a bit frustrated by their club’s slow business and will be keen to get the window over and done with.
