News breaking in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon is that Premier League sides have been put on red alert after Wesley Sneijder’s agent confirmed that the Dutch international would consider joining a top team in England.
However his agent Soren Lerby made it clear that the 28-year-old is “absolutely not interested” in joining QPR after some reported interest.
The midfielder has not played a game for Inter Milan since September after falling out with the club over a possible new contract and that has seen him linked with clubs across Europe including QPR.
Lerby told BBC Sport: “He is absolutely not interested in QPR and we haven’t heard directly from anyone there.
“England probably has the top league in Europe, so it could appeal, but Wes would want to play for a top team.”
Sneijder looks likely to leave the San Siro during the present transfer window and wants his future sorted as fast as possible
Lerby, who represented Ajax, Bayern Munich, Monaco and Denmark during an illustrious playing career, described the links with QPR as “just rumours from an agent”.
He added: “Wesley is one of the best midfielders in Europe. He is fully recovered from injury and just loves to play football, so we need to find a solution to his situation with Inter.
“It’s a very, very strange situation for all of us. We should know a lot more in the next week to 10 days.”
Sneijder has been a long-term transfer target of Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur who continue to be heavily linked with the Inter man. He hasn’t featured for the Nerazzurri since September however and may take a while to get up to full fitness given the fast paced nature of the Premier League.
