It has emerged that both Chelsea and Manchester United have become interested in Inter Milan play maker Wesley Sneijder after the players agent revealed that talks over a new deal at the Italian club have broken down.
The Dutch international is believed to be unhappy with life at the San Siro under new manager Rafa Benitez, seemingly becoming unsettled after Jose Mourinho left the club for Spanish side Read Madrid in the summer, the club who the Portuguese manager signed Sneijder from just 12 months ago.
The potential availability of the 26 year old could be news to the ears of a number of Premier League clubs with both Chelsea and Manchester United seemingly waiting in the wings to make a move for the former Ajax midfielder.
With a number of injuries and an aging midfield, it is thought that bringing Sneijder to Old Trafford could be a perfect move for both parties as the midfielders attacking qualities and relatively young age could be just what the Red Devils need to once again help achieve European and domestic success in years to come.
However if life at the Italian side proves to be untenable, Inter may look to get rid of Sneijder before his contract expires to ensure they made back some of the £13 million which they spent in bringing him to this club. For this season a move to United could prove difficult as the North West club may struggle to raise the necessary funds, leaving the way open for defending champions Chelsea to swoop for the attacking midfielder.
Despite Chairman Roman Abramovich recently stating that the days of high money deals at Chelsea were long gone, the potential availability of Sneijder could prove too tempting for the West London club, whose signature would not only add to an impressive midfield squad at Stamford Bridge, but also give the Blues the extra quality to enable them to retain the Premier League title and possibly achieve success in Europe this season.
