There’s good news for Swansea City fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, with sources at talkSPORT confirming the club have resigned Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman on loan for a second consecutive season.
The 25-year-old was one of the standout performers of last season, and enjoyed Capital One Cup success under Michael Laudrup.
Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed the club have reached an agreement with Spanish side Villarreal to take the enforcer on loan for another season, and the Welsh club hope to make the move permanent in the future.
“Everyone is happy the loan is continuing. Then Jonathan will review his long-term future next summer.” Jenkins told the club’s official website.
de Guzman fired eight goals last season, including one in the Capital One Cup Final, and helped the Swans to an impressive ninth placed Premier League finish.
“I had a great year at Swansea,” he said.
“The people around the club and the fans treated me well.
“It was not just the results we had; it was more about showing we can also compete with the big teams. We played better against the bigger teams.
“We played well in a lot of games. We played good football and it’s refreshing playing in a team that has a good football mind.”
