€15M Saga Rumbles On – New Ultimatum Made

It seems like everyone is sick of the Manchester United goalkeeping saga, even Atletico Madrid the employers of one of United’s top targets seem to be getting tired of the whole thing.

Talksport have quotes from within the club stating that De Gea needs to make up his mind on where his future lies, presumably so that they can organise themselves for next season.

It was reported recently, perhaps prematurely, that the deal was already in place, and that the Spanish goalkeeper would sign for United this Summer.  It would now appear that De Gea is the club’s first choice, but potentially it looks as if the deal is not quite completed yet.  The stopper is pretty young in goal keeping terms at only 20 years of age, however he has been playing in La Liga for a season and a half now, and has made 50 appearances so far, keeping 13 clean sheets in that period.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have been linked with numerous keepers over the last few months, Hugo Lloris, Manuel Neuer, Rene Adler, Gianluigi Buffon and Pepe Reina have all been tracked by Sir Alex Ferguson, but it seems to now be a one horse race with the club waiting on a decision from De Gea.

Talksport bring us quotes from Atletico Madrid Madrid CEO, Angel Gil Marin, who spoke to Onda Cero Radio, the club are still hopeful that the keeper may stay in the Spanish capital, he has said:

“We have met with him to negotiate a new deal on two occasions….He has a contract with Atletico for three more seasons, so it is necessary to renew it and reasonable to revise his salary, which is well below his current performance….But at the end of the season there will be two choices – to renew or to leave.”.

Clearly the players club are walking somewhat of a tightrope, they have acknowledged the need to boost the players deal, and pay him a wage that equates to his ability and performances, but at the same time if he is to quit the side for Old Trafford, they need him to do it early this Summer so they can find a replacement for next season.

It definitely seems as if the Old Trafford goalkeeping saga is coming to an end, and it appears that there are 2 deals on the table for the goal keeper and the ball is firmly in the players court, and I think we might get an answer over the coming weeks and then finally this one will be put to bed!
