It’s no secret that Ryan Babel has wanted a change of scenery for some time.
Frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Liverpool, the only sticking point for the Dutchman has been his preferred destination; despite interest from Birmingham City and Hoffenheim, the forward has rejected moves in the past, apparently still holding out for either a bigger suitor or even another chance at Anfield.
However, reports emerged this morning that Babel was finally ready to listen to offers from Hoffenheim, with his agent in talks with the Bundesliga side. NESV were rumoured to be reluctant to sanction a move until Roy Hodgson’s future at the club was decided.
Well, it’s been decided; he’s gone, and Babel may well be the first one to follow the now ex-Liverpool manager out of the club.
Voetbal International reports Hoffenheim’s renewed interest in Babel is due to the likely departure of Demba Ba to West Ham, with sporting director, Ernst Tanner, seeing Babel as the ideal replacement.
