I wouldn’t worry too much about this one Spurs fans, as this is possibly the worst rumour I have stumbled across in the past week.
So tuttomercatoweb.com have claimed sources in Germany are backing Juventus to make a shock bid for Gareth Bale. Let’s get one thing straight, it’s no shock that every man and his dog will be linked with the impressive Welshman this summer.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp might find it a struggle to hold on to the youngster, after some sensational performances putting the frighteners on defences all over Europe have placed Bale at the top of the pile for many of the top pedigrees in the game.
Despite that, this is a rumour that I just can’t see happening. Juventus, who are most certainly a shadow of their past, are looking to offer €20m and off-load Felipe Melo and Amauri as bait to make the deal look half reasonable.
Melo, whom is valued around £20 million, would be a good signing for any side, but do spurs really need another midfielder? As far as Amauri goes, he has played for a host of sides and failed to fill his potential at any club. I can’t see him being the man to come in and solve the Londoners striking problems.
Bale has become hot property at the Lane and missing out on that fourth spot could prove vital in where he kicks off the new campaign. He has managed 11 goals this season in 41 appearances and the contribution he makes on the pitch doesn’t go unnoticed and would seem impossible to replace.
I would expect a long summer of Bale to be making the headlines everyday but, I just wonder if the P.F.A player of the year could be persuaded to give spurs one more season… It’s not as if the interest would have died down next summer?
I think we can put this ridiculous rumour to sleep though, but bring on many more…
