Borussia Dortmund defender, Neven Subotic is currently the Bundesliga’s hottest property. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are currently monitoring the 22 year old centre-back, as they look to strengthen their squads ahead of next season’s Premiership campaign.
It’s a well known fact that Arsenal need a quality centre-back, and Chelsea are also keen to spend in what could be a summer of big-name departures from Stamford Bridge. Manchester City also know that they will have to recruit if they are to compete again next season as successfully as they have in the past. Subotic fits the bill for all 3 clubs, in that he’s young and experienced.
Borussia Dortmund currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, and that has been largely achieved by a decent defensive record. Subotic has played in 23 games this season for the German side, and has helped them to keep 16 clean sheets. Not a bad record! They won their game against FC Koln at the weekend, and a host of Premier League scouts were spotted at the ground keeping tabs on the Serbian centre-back.
Chelsea have already made an approach for Neven, but they were knocked back in January as Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke did not want to sell half-way through the season. But he has already suggested that if a big offer was made this summer, he wouldn’t stand in Subotic’s way.
The player resembles a cross between Johnny Depp, Mark Owen and James Franco from 127 Hours. At least that’s what I think! It’s likely that Dortmund will consider offers up to and above £20 million for him, a figure which is unlikely to cause Chelsea or City any trouble. The Serbian also represented his country at the World Cup, and had a reasonably good tournament. Expect an interesting battle for him come August.
