Now this is a bit of an exciting one, well exciting if it goes anywhere. It appears that the opportunity to sign Real Madrid right back Sergio Ramos might be coming round and the race for his signature is really heating up.
Reports coming from Italian news paper Corriere dello Sport are suggesting that AC Milan are refusing to drop out of the race to sign the Spanish fullback and are ready to compete with Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Milan side are hoping that the friendship between Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and Real president Florentino Perez will aid them in their quest.
World cup winner Ramos began his career coming through the ranks at Sevilla and played 2 seasons for the club before at the start of the 3rd, at 19 years of age he was transferred to Real Madrid for £23million, a record for a Spanish teenager. He originally played as a centre-back but over time he switched to right back as more defenders were signed by the Spanish giants, and it is there that he plays in the national side as well.
From there his career has taken off and he has enjoyed 6 seasons at the club and become the mainstay of the teams defense. During his career so far he has won 2 La Liga titles, as well as the World Cup and the European Championships.
In recent times reports coming out of Spain have suggested that Ramos is slightly uncomfortable at Madrid and he may be looking for a move in the near future. An alleged bust up with Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has lead to numerous stories that the player will be seeking a move and his agent has recently confirmed that there has been interest from Premier League sides:
“Some big clubs in England and Italy have been interested in Sergio for some time….We expect to have a meeting with the club in the next few months and to analyse the future of Sergio.”
It is believed that Chelsea and Manchester United are leading the way in terms of English clubs, although there is said to be interest from Manchester City and Arsenal as well, however it appears today that AC Milan are refusing to give up on their wishes to sign the player. The close relationship between members of the respective boards are thought to be playing a big part in any potential deal, and there have also been suggestions that the Serie A side are ready to offer Jose Mourhinho Brazilian striker Pato as part of any deal for the player. Ramos himself has been spotted numerous times visiting the San Siro when he has had time off from Real, something which many have suggested may be an indication that he would prefer a move to Milan as opposed to England.
Sergio Ramos is a superb right back and would add to any of the clubs that have been linked with him. There are not many better right backs in world football, so there is no question over his quality. The player will obviously want to play in a team challenging for titles and one that is involved in the Champions League, that could in many ways tip the balance in favour of one of the English sides, as AC may not be the power they once were in Europe.
Whatever happens however any deal would no doubt involve a lot of money and with these current reports coming from Italy it seems if Ramos is to leave this Summer the battle for his signature could get pretty intense.
