Reports on FootballPress.net claim Chelsea are ready to offer €25m for Galatasaray and Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
The 25-year-old keeper signed for Galatasaray in the summer for €6m plus Lorik Cana from Lazio. The keeper made 96 appearances for Lazio and has played every league game for the Turkish giants this season. He has also played over 30 times for Uruguay and was the number 1 goalkeeper during the national teams run to the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 2010.
The 6’3″ keeper was selected as the 6th best goalkeeper in world football by the IFFHS in 2011.
A €25m offer from Chelsea would almost certainly spell the end of Cech’s reign as Chelsea’s number one. Although not at his best this season Cech still has alot to offer as a goalkeeper and has performed so well over many seasons for Chelsea so surely deserve a second chance after one poor season. After all he was voted Chelsea’s player of the season not to long ago.
Chelsea have more pressing issues regarding their squad than goalkeeper problems. A new number 2 may be necessary as Hilario is ageing now and is more of a number 3 while Turnbull is hardly a goalkeeper who could replace Cech over a period of time.
Chelsea also have Courtois who is currently on loan at Athletico Madrid and performing very well to come into the fold at some point so instead of spending 25m euros on a goalkeeper that money could certainly be put to better use during this summer.
