€25M Is Peanuts For An Out & Out Thoroughbred That Has Scored 21 Goals In 23 Games…

I am not sure there are many gags left involving the name of a certain Porto forward.  Hulk really is a name to conjure with so today I will be taking a different tack and making this a ‘Hulk joke’ free zone!

The Brazilian forward has been linked with switches to the Premier League at numerous points this season, but so far the powerful forward has remained tight lipped, that is until now, in speaking to a Portuguese TV channel his agent has hardly filled Porto fans full of hope that he will be staying next season.

The player who has formed a deadly partnership this season with fellow South American Falcao is now in his 3rd year with the club, after a career that has taken a fairly strange path.  He began his career in Brazil, and then made the slightly strange move to Japan, where he played for 3 years for a few different clubs all to moderate success.

He moved to Portugal for the 08-09 season and for the first couple of years he didn’t set the league alight with his goal scoring record, managing just 13 goals in his first 2 years.  This term however things have been different and he currently has an unbelievable scoring record of 21 goals in 23 games, definitely not to be sniffed at!

It would appear now however that his time in Portugal may be coming to an end, the 24 year old is at the biggest club in the country and it may be time that he moved on for a new challenge.  He has kept his options open but also issued somewhat of a come and get me plea through his agent, our friends at talksport bring us these quotes from Portuguese tv channel TSF:

“Hulk will only leave Porto for a major club with the goal of being the champions and it’s not easy to find such a club….But he would really like it in England where the clubs pay players very well. But at the moment there no are firm offers in place.”.

Essentially his agent has ensured that should he stay with his current club next year he will save face, but it also makes it clear to clubs that are interested in him that he might be open to a move.

The battle to sign the player from England is thought to be strong, previously Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with possible moves for the player, and any of those three might start proceedings this Summer.  City have previous experience of Brazilians, and a lot might depend on the future of Carlos Tevez, if the Argentinean is to leave, Hulk may be seen as the ideal replacement.

In my eyes he doesn’t seem a very ‘Arsene Wenger-like’ signing, so maybe in some ways that would indicate that he would be ideal for the Gunners, he would not come cheap which may put Arsenal off somewhat.

As for United well Sir Alex Ferguson already has one bulky striker, but Hulk can also play from wide areas and therefore he could be extremely useful to the Old Trafford outfit, I would say that this is probably his most likely destination, and I think he would do a great job for Manchester United.

Whilst nothing is set in stone and there is nothing on the table currently, this is definitely one worth watching as it could develop pretty quickly.
