Many rumours have been flying around as to Andy Carroll’s replacement and the latest name that could possibly be filling his boots next summer is Mevlut Erding. The 23 year old currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain and was their top scorer in the league last season with 15 goals in 19 appearances.
Erding was a product of FC Sochaux’s academy before reaching their first team in 2007-08 season where he scored 11 goals in 28 appearances. The following season he was their top scorer with 12 goals. In the same summer Paris paid a fee of up to €9 million for him.
Paris now rate the player at up to €20-25 with top Premiership clubs sniffing around for his services. The French club have a history of aiding young players development, Anelka, Thuram and Ronaldinho to name but a few, then selling them on for big profits.
The pacey striker, while not a like for like replacement for Carroll, he certainly has an eye for goal. It is whether Pardew can convince Mike Ashley to part with most of the cash from the Carroll transfer on to a player with not that big a reputation in the British Isles.
