The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are in fine spirits after their side recorded an excellent 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on New Year’s day.
The pressure was really beginning to intensify on Jose Mourinho following a hat-trick of draws in the Premier League. However, Mourinho’s side made the best possible start to 2018 with a positive performance and result to match yesterday evening. United had to be patient against a tenacious Everton side, but they eventually found the crucial breakthrough courtesy of Anthony Martial, who placed a fine effort into the top-right corner after receiving the ball from Paul Pogba on the edge of Everton’s 18-yard box.
Jesse Lingard then continued his remarkable improvement in form this season with a sublime solo effort from outside the area in the 81st minute to secure the three-points for United.
United’s result was extremely pleasing for everybody involved with the club, particularly for Mourinho who has been subjected to a barrage of criticism throughout the festive period.
But Mourinho will know that he needs to make plenty of additions to his squad if the club want to continue to improve and reduce the gulf in class that currently exists between United and City in Manchester.
In recent days, the United fans have been discussing potential signings on Twitter, and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale has often been the focal point for plenty of transfer related dialogue.
However, despite Bale’s obvious talent, it appears that the majority of supporters are eager for the club to end their interest in the Welshman and focus their attention elsewhere.
Here’s how the Red Devils on Twitter responded to their club’s links with Gareth Bale…
I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again; I do not want Gareth Bale at Manchester United. I simply don’t see the point in signing one of the most injury prone players in Europe’s top five leagues. Simply throwing money down the toilet when it could be spent bettter elsewhere!

Sincerely, I don't want him, I prefer Alexis Sanchez

You're right, he'd cost around 90m and rather use that money elsewhere

I hope @ManUtd remember the Owen Hargreaves fiasco when it comes to signing injury prone players. In my humble opinion we should not even consider any bid for Gareth Bale who turned us down previously.

Please no wait till summer and get dybala realistic not winning league or cl why not just get agreement in place and sign him in summer
— Zlatan (@hx_st) December 29, 2017
Why? We have too many injury prone players. Certainly not Jose decision to sign him. Ed is at it again.
