The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club will secure the signature of at least one world class player this summer, but recent reports suggest one of their targets could be set for a move to Juventus.
According to the Italian media outlet Tuttosport, Juventus are interested in signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer in a deal which could cost somewhere between 80-100 million euros. The Serbia international has gained plenty of admirers this season for his performances in Serie A, including Manchester United who have been linked with him on multiple occasions since the turn of the year.
However, with competition for his signature beginning to intensify, Ed Woodward needs to act quickly to secure a deal for his services whilst Juventus are still attempting to agree a contract with Liverpool’s Emre Can. Savic cuts a physically imposing figure in midfield, but it’s his immense level of technical ability rather than his physical attributes which have made him such a success in Italian football.
With close control, balance and a strong eye for the back of the net, Savic possesses a killer instinct in and around the 18-yard box which was often absent from United’s performances throughout the season.
However, the 23-year-old is also capable of putting in a shift defensively and breaking up play when needed, so Mourinho would have the freedom to experiment with a number of different midfield combinations if he eventually arrives at Old Trafford this summer.
With 14 goals and 9 assists to his name from 48 appearances in all-competitions last season, there’s no doubt that Savic would offer United an extra threat in the final-third and add a significant layer of quality to the spine of their squad.
But with Juventus knocking on Lazio’s door, United will need to act fast if they wish to secure the services of a player who has the potential to set the Premier League alight.
