Eden Hazard’s future will be secure if Chelsea swap Alvaro Morata for 29-goal ace

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping that Eden Hazard will remain at the club this summer as speculation regarding his future continues to loom large in the media.

With no Champions League football to offer the Belgium international and murmurs of a revolution at Real Madrid emerging from Spain, the resident Blues faithful propping up our bar are naturally concerned that Hazard will decide to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea have more pressing issues to deal with at this moment in time with Antonio Conte’s future hanging in the balance, but once a a decision has been made regarding the manager, the club’s hierarchy will need to make a huge statement of intent to convince Hazard to remain in West London.

It’s absolutely imperative that the Blues make at least one marque signing this summer to ensure they return to Champions League football once again next season, as their failure to do so would almost certainly signal the end of Hazard’s Chelsea career.

And according to Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser (via Calciomercato), Chelsea are planning on doing exactly that, as they are reportedly lining up a bid for Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi. The report claims that Chelsea are unwilling to meet Inter’s asking price in a cash only deal, but they are willing to offer 35-40 million euros and Alvaro Morata in order to force through a deal.

Although luring Inter’s captain away from the San Siro would undoubtedly be an immensely difficult deal to complete, it’s one which Chelsea simply have to pull off if they wish to keep Hazard at the club. Icardi’s record of 29 goals from 34 Serie A appearances last season illuminates that fact that he is one of the most lethal strikers in world football, so there’s no doubt Chelsea would be well-placed to mount a title-challenge next season following his arrival.

After 6 seasons at Chelsea, it’s only natural that Hazard will be considering his options this summer, but the arrival of Icardi would certainly give him a massive reason to remain at Stamford Bridge for at least one more season.
