Manchester City have confirmed one of their defenders has agreed to terms over a contract extension.
The club have announced on their club official website that Eliaquim Mangala has signed a one-year contract extension, meaning he will be tied to the Etihad Stadium outfit until 2020.
The France international has been at the Premier League champions since 2014, however, he has found first-team action a little difficult at times.
Mangala, who has spent time on loans at Valencia and Everton, has been plagued by injuries recently and has been working hard to recover from a serious knee problem by turning out for the club’s developmental side.
Mangala’s contract extension may come as a bit of a surprise, especially considering the players that Pep Guardiola has available to him in defence.
The 28-year-old will have to battle with the likes of Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany for a place in the first-team.
However, a new deal could mean that Man City have plans for the France international in the future and will be hoping that he can overcome his injury and return to the form that brought him to the Etihad Stadium in 2014.
