‘Embarrassing’ – Chelsea fans not happy with latest transfer rumour

Chelsea fans in the tavern are looking on with intrigue as rumours continue to circle that £6.3 million-rated (via Transfermarkt) centre-back, Jamaal Lascelles, could be on his way to Stamford Bridge in the summer. Many believe that the transfer of the former Nottingham Forest man hinges on Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez. Benitez, who won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2013, is the man who entrusted Lascelles with the captain’s armband at Newcastle and many believe that whilst he’s in charge Lascelles won’t be going anywhere.

Over the years under Roman Abramovic Chelsea have developed a reputation for failing to give homegrown players a chance and often get accused of looking for a ‘quick fix’ by throwing money at the next footballing wonder-kid instead of looking closer to home. Last summer alone saw promising premier league calibre players Nathan Ake, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Nathaniel Chalobah and Kurt Zouma all move away from the bridge to for my consistent minutes.

Although some of those four mentioned players will be returning to East London next summer in hope of establishing a place in the first team, it stands as a warning to Lascelles that making the move from the Northeast to the capital isn’t in his best interest if he wants to establish himself as a proven Premier League player and force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England side.
