According to The Mirror's transfer column, Liverpool are one of 14 clubs interested in Brazilian defender Emerson.

The 20-year-old right-back is currently with Brazilian outfit Atlético Mineiro, and has obviously caught the attention a huge number of clubs.

The column says that Arsenal are one of The Reds' main competitors to sign the Brazilian, particularly in light of current right-back Hector Bellerin being ruled out for nine months with a knee injury. The Gunners will be desperate to replace the Spaniard as soon as possible to avoid their top four bid becoming curtailed.

Equally, Liverpool have an injury crisis on their hands two, with Trent Alexander-Arnold facing a few weeks on the sidelines. With Nathaniel Clyne already on loan at Bournemouth and unable to return, Jürgen Klopp has a problem trying to find a suitable replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

This is a clear sign that The Reds are learning from their mistakes this season, as this is surely going to be one of the most testing periods of their season. In order to avoid such a troublesome period again, they are seeking a long-term solution rather than quick fixes. The Reds could simply sign a player on loan to cover at right-back this month, but have instead turned to youth to allow them to have a dominant squad for years to come.

With Alexander-Arnold also 20 years of age, Liverpool fans will surely be relishing the battle that he will have with Emerson for many years to come for a starting berth at Anfield should The Reds land this deal this month.
