Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying it: Mesut Ozil is one of the most talented players in Europe, and he’s doubting the fact that he’s one of the best players at Arenal.
He’s inconsistent, sure, but in terms of raw ability and potential, few players can get close to him.
A recent line in a report from the Daily Star, then, shouldn’t go unnoticed. According to the Daily Star, Ozil is refusing to leave the club this month – unless he’s given a permanent move. No further detail is offered, but this seems to imply that Arsenal would be open to loaning him out, and that’s a move that would just make no sense for the club.
Indeed, Arsenal must recognise that they’re a stronger force with Ozil in the team, rather than without him. Between his fantastic range of passing, incredibly proactive dribbling and overall quality with the ball at his feet, there’s nobody in the Arsenal team that can do what Ozil does on a regular basis.
Is he as central to this team as he was under Arsene Wenger? Certainly not, but that’s because Arsenal’s team has been upgraded in a whole host of areas. Nonetheless, Ozil is still one of the best at the club, and whilst he’s not always essential, he’s always a valued arrow in Unai Emery’s bow – or rather, he should be.
You can bet that if you asked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whether he’d like to see Ozil play every week, he’d say yes – because the German’s presence in the team makes life so much easier for many of Arsenal’s main men.
Ozil is not in the best moment of his career, but Arsenal would struggle to find a better man to call upon when they need a dose of inspiration. Whatever their plans, they need to rethink them – because they must hold on to Ozil.
