Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the work of head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, and Unai Emery in the transfer window.
Emery was announced as the successor to Arsene Wenger in the Emirates dugout and has wasted no time in revamping his squad. Working with former Borussia Dortmund man Mislintat, the Spaniard has already sealed one signing, with a further two players reportedly close to joining him in North London.
The Gunners sealed a free transfer for Juventus defender, Stephan Lichtsteiner, and are in advanced talks to seal a £16m deal for Dortmund defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Emery is also expected to complete the signing of Sampdoria midfielder, Lucas Torreira. The latest set of reports have linked the Gunners with a sensational move for one of Chelsea’s defenders.
French outlet, Le 10 Sport, suggest Emery will attempt to lure David Luiz from Stamford Bridge. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the Brazilian could prove to be an excellent signing. The 31-year-old was a mainstay in the Chelsea side that lifted the Premier League title in 2017 after re-joining the club from Paris St Germain.
Injuries have restricted the former Benfica man to just ten appearances in the Premier League this season under Antonio Conte. Luiz has since lost his place in the starting eleven to youngster Andreas Christensen. Arsenal could be the perfect escape route.
Luiz is proven Premier League quality and would add some much-needed experience in the Gunners backline. The Brazil international can also feature at defensive midfield making him a useful option to have. He is quick, strong and great in the air and would be an excellent signing.
