Encouraging news emerges for despondent Newcastle fans

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side suffer back-to-back Premier League defeats prior to the international break, results that have seen them fall into the bottom half of the division.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their most recent clash with struggling Bournemouth off the back of losing 1-0 to Burnley in their preceding league game, in turn falling to their fourth league loss in ten matches. Yet that soon became five in 11 as Steve Cook’s late header was enough to secure Eddie Howe’s Cherries a 1-0 win at St James’ Park last weekend, in turn moving the South Coast outfit out of the Premier League’s bottom three, and thus instigating Newcastle’s fall to 11th place in the table.

Thus, there have been many unhappy Magpies fans in the Tavern this week, although they may be considerably chirpier if a recent report from The Daily Star is anything to go by, which suggests that Amanda Staveley could be on the verge of completing a takeover of the North East giants.

The St James’ Park faithful have been intrigued by potential developments ever since Mike Ashley put the club up for sale back in October, as well as Staveley’s appearance in the crowd in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool earlier that month.

Yet talk of a possible takeover has gone a bit quiet in recent times, much to the frustration and indeed concern of some Newcastle fans, but recent reports suggest that a deal is close to completion and could well take place at some stage this week.

And this is sure to delight several of our resident Magpies fans, who have been crying out for change for a number of years now, and may finally get their wish sooner rather than later.

Landlord’s verdict: Speculation about a possible takeover of Newcastle United has been rife ever since businesswoman Amanda Staveley was seen at St James’ Park during their clash with Liverpool on October 1.

And that speculation became even greater when owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale a few weeks later, although things have gone quiet on the takeover front in recent times to suggest that a deal still appears far away.

However, recent reports detail that Staveley is close to securing a deal for the North East giants, which is sure to come as great news to Newcastle fans up and down the country, and possibly manager Rafa Benitez, who may already be looking towards the January transfer window in a bid to bolster his squad.

But only time will tell whether Staveley is indeed able to complete a takeover of the Magpies.
