Liverpool fans have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks after watching their side struggle for form.
The Merseyside giants have won just one of their seven matches in all competitions since the last international break, a run which has seen them exit the Carabao Cup, remain winless in the Champions League, and fall seven points adrift of the Manchester duo at the top of the Premier League.
Thus, there is much for manager Jurgen Klopp to ponder over this fortnight’s interruption, but there does appear to be some good news on the horizon if a recent report from The Liverpool Echo is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that Roberto Firmino and Ben Woodburn are set to be offered new contracts at Anfield.
Brazil international Firmino joined the Reds back in 2015 after a four-year stint at Hoffenheim, and although he made a sluggish start to life at the club, he has gone from strength to strength in recent times, bagging ten goals and laying on 11 assists last term in the Premier League, and netting four times in all competitions already this term.
While Wales international Woodburn burst onto the scene last season by scoring against Leeds United in the League Cup, in turn becoming the club’s youngest-ever scorer, and he has since added a further eight first team appearances to suggest that he’s becoming a more important member of Klopp’s squad.
And it seems that both are integral to their future as well as reports suggest they are set to be offered new deals at Liverpool, news which is likely to thrill several of our resident Reds supporters.
Landlord’s verdict: Roberto Firmino has been a shining light in what has been a testing start for Liverpool this season, further underlining his resurgence under manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Brazil international failed to net at all under Brendan Rodgers but has been pivotal to Klopp’s plans in the last two years, whereas 17-year-old Ben Woodburn appears to be crucial in the club’s future.
And both look set to earn the new contracts they deserve as well, with manager Klopp, himself under some pressure following his side’s average start to the campaign, clearly placing great emphasis on the long-term ambitions of the club, which must be to begin competing for the Premier League title once again.
