End of Diame: Newcastle must replace St. James’ Park flop with this World Cup star

Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern will be desperate to see a central midfielder brought to the club this summer, as Rafa Benitez will struggle to challenge near the top if he doesn’t manage to strengthen in key areas.

The Magpies didn’t give supporters much to shout about last season as they flirted with the possibility of relegation at times, but managed to enjoy a successful last day of the campaign against Chelsea.

Rafa Benitez will be keen to secure a number of permanent signings this summer after struggling to receive the correct backing from Mike Ashley back in January.

And, one player that he may be looking to replace is Mohamed Diame. The Senegalese international did struggle to show any real quality at times last season, which caused all sorts of problems for the Magpies when it came down to finding Jonjo Shelvey the perfect midfield partner.

So without further ado, Newcastle must replace Diame with this World Cup star…

William Carvalho

William Carvalho recently terminated his Sporting Lisbon contract, so Newcastle may be able to lure him to St James’ Park this summer.

The Portuguese international has the ability to create something out of nothing and can thread passes in behind the opposition’s defence with ease. Mohamed Diame struggled to ensure any defensive solidity last season, so bringing the 26-year-old in will add another line of defence.

Many of our local northerners are even going as far as saying that European football will be achievable if they manage to secure Carvalho’s services.
