West Ham United fans here in the Tavern will be desperate to see a central defender brought to the club this summer, with Manuel Pellegrini looking to hit the ground running at the London Stadium.
The Hammers will need to get supporters back on board this summer after losing their interest towards the end of the last campaign. Indeed, many of our local residents were less than pleased with how their side performed at times during their survival bid, so a successful summer will completely turn the mood around in the English capital.
Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to bring his own style and players to the club this summer, with all areas on the field needing strengthening.
Indeed, one player that the South American may want to replace is Winston Reid. The 29-year-old just didn’t look like his normal self in the campaign just gone as he struggled to ensure defensive solidity, and was one of the main reasons behind the Hammers’ poor defensive record.
With that in mind, West Ham must replace Reid with this World Cup star…
Rugged, tough and uncompromising, the 32-year-old remains as aerially dominant as he has always been. He is a very experienced customer and has enjoyed spells in England, Croatia, Russia and Germany.
West Ham United looked to bring in experienced players last season as they welcomed the likes of Patrice Evra and Pablo Zabaleta to the club, so they could look to lure another wise head to the London Stadium by swooping in for the former Tottenham Hotspur man.
Vedran Corluka was named in Croatia’s 23-man squad, so Manuel Pellegrini may want to keep a close eye on him during the World Cup.
